Wanna know how I feel right now? Then read. . .

Some of you see redemption as giving yourself up to Jesus. I just can’t do that. My Messiah is the one that tell us to stop acting like assholes to each other. Yours is too – so why, for the love of God, don’t you? Why – if you believe so strongly in the redemption of Jesus, or Allah, or YHWH, or Buddha, or [insert your Deity here] can you not act like civilized fucking people? I guaran-fucking-tee – if JC, Mohammad, Abraham, or Siddhartha were here today – they would be just as pissed as I am. They would look around see who was worthy of redemption, and I tell you what – not many of us would be on that list.

My question is – how does anyone reconcile the words Holy and War when used in the same sentence? When, WHEN 2000 years ago, did Jesus Christ command his followers to take up arms? He did not. He did just the opposite. It took less than 5 or 6 generations for humans to fuck up Christianity. Y’all know what Christ means, right? Here is your history lesson for the moment – Christ comes from Christos – Greek for Messiah. Messiah means Saviour. Jesus, the Saviour – that’s the dude’s name. Saviour – to save. Really? Save your souls from eternal damnation. And how, exactly do you do that? Well, in 21st Century America – you blame all the problems of the world on Muslims and Communists. Then you attack them. Then you are saved – because that peace loving hippie from Nazareth would have wanted it that way. How asinine is that?

This is not a rebuke to religion, mind you – it is a rebuke to the bastardization of the spirit for a fleeting temporal gain. Blind faith is just one vessel by which that is happening. A friend of mine said, “We have worked ourselves into an impossible environmental, economic, and moral state.” She is absolutely correct. In fact, I do not think I could have said that as clearly as she. Religion is not responsible for that – not at all. Contrary to what some people may believe about me, and I’m not really sure from where this thought ever came, but I am not anti-religion. Some people seem to think I am – and I will never understand why. The issue I have is when people do anything in the name of their religion that is undeniably counterintuitive to their claimed religion. Again – I ask you to look at your scripture – for yourself, in your own eyes and actually see peace. Peace is NOT what is taught by anyone who is a pop culture Christian.

Crusades? Holy wars? Ireland? Hitler? The Radical Right? Really? All in the name of God and the Messiah? The same Messiah who gave the Sermon on the Mount? When Jesus lived, the rules changed. When he died – they were guaranteed. “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.” Who lives that now? Not Christians – that’s for damned sure. . .

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Does anyone even listen to Jesus anymore?

OK – One more – this goes out to all the capitalists who claim Christianity as their own. . . “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Seriously – read the bible. You may learn something. Start with Matthew; Chapter 5. Then go from there. While you are at it – grab a copy of the Qur’an. See what it says. Look at the Buddha for peace and enlightenment. . . You know – learn peace.

Let’s go, briefly, now to that world of Lacey’s impossible economic and moral state. This system lives because we die. My brother made a little joke about us living in the Matrix when I started to rant about the ways of the world, but really – it’s not a joke. What choices do we make for ourselves? I can think of none. We (our parents) don’t choose how we are born, we don’t choose how we are educated, we don’t choose how we dress, we don’t choose how we travel, we don’t choose what we eat. . . All of these choices are made for us. It’s like a life-long buffet. We are presented with a minute selection and told to go to town. We fill our bodies, our minds, and our spirits with poison every day and we do so willingly. What the fuck is wrong with us? We have no choices. Agency is a sham. Liberty is a ruse. Freedom is not free. . . We’re sheep. We’re ants. We work for the man. We do what he tells us to – and we don’t even question it. . . OK, I’m about to go to bed. My rant is running out of steam.

So, I will leave you with this. . . Start with your thoughts on religion. Read your holy book of choice and then ask yourself, “Am I actually living this?” I’ma go ahead an say, no – you’re not. Then go one step further. . . Are we in the Matrix? NO, not like we’re plugged into a machine, but like we really do not get to choose our own destiny. We just get to think we do. Our reality is masked. Seriously consider that for a moment. One last thing I want you to research is Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. It talks about perceptions of reality. It’s good stuff.

Good night.
